I'm not an imposter, I'm a product of Grace.

“But I will not drive them out in a single year, because the land would become desolate and the wild animals too numerous for you. Little by little I will drive them out before you, until you have increased enough to take possession of the land.”

- Exodus 23:29-30 (New International Version)

A couple days ago I experienced another business blunder. I was jumping on live with a fellow business owner to promote an event and it seemed like everything that could go wrong went WRONG. I’ll spare you the details but overall, even though some things happened that were out of my control, there were definitely some areas in which I could have performed better for this opportunity.

*Cue barrage of imposter syndrome thoughts*

I’m not good enough for this opportunity. They probably regret inviting me. Maybe I should just politely bow out and put us both out of this misery. And blah blah blah.

Now obviously I know better than to believe these lies but that doesn’t prevent them from getting under my skin a lil’ bit! Even though I know I’m purposed, anointed and destined for every God-ordained opportunity that comes my way, it’s still easy to have doubts when I’m face to face with my inadequacies.

But thank God my inadequacies do not cancel the call of God on my life!

I know you’re in the process of building something phenomenal just like I am so I can imagine you’ve also had feelings of imposter syndrome at one time or another. True, it’s a real thing but I’m starting to think it’s just a natural part of being developed into your best self.

We’re all projects and, naturally, some parts of a project get done before others, that’s just how it is. But it can be hard to wrestle with having so much success in one area while others are still on strugglebus.com, which is where I think imposter syndrome worms its way in.

So yeah, I still haven’t cracked the code on avoiding imposter syndrome altogether, but I thank God for encouraging me through it with this week’s scripture. He used it to remind me that, little by little, He’s ironing out my kinks and shoring me up to be able to handle the magnitude of my calling. And He’s so dope for doing it now, at this level of my business instead of just letting me go out there and fail at a high level because the little things weren’t corrected on the way there. He is SUCH a good Father!

There’s no way to get around it. You’re not perfect. And sooner or later someone’s going to catch a glimpse of your imperfection. But guess what? They ain’t perfect either. We’re all just products of God’s matchless, endless, unmerited grace. Keep working with God as He works with you and don’t let anything, not even your own failures, stop you from continuing to pursue every blessing He has for you and your business.
