I Am Already The Person I Am Becoming.

“Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.”

- 3 John 2 (New King James Version)

-------

Late last week as I was getting closer to launching a project I’ve been working on this quarter -- and fighting the barrage of negative thoughts trying to tell me I couldn’t do it -- I sensed God leading me to lay down, close my eyes and visualize my future self. I had done this previously at a women’s retreat earlier this year and I felt like I needed to revisit that woman I saw in the visualization exercise, 3 years into my future. Needless to say, I’m so glad I did it because it refueled my belief in myself and gave me the push I needed to finish the work.

Now I definitely believe the enemy tries his hardest to derail us with negative thoughts and situations, but I also know this dude is not omnipresent. That means, a lot of times, the stream of thoughts in our head is not authored by him -- it’s coming from within us. As I pondered on the battle I had just fought (and won!) in my mind, I realized something:

The woman I’ve been is waging war against the woman I am becoming.

And the woman I’ve been ain’t no punk! 😂 She wants to continue living her best comfortable life and future me ain’t having it. She’s seen too much. She’s seen the lives I'm going to impact, the time and financial freedom I’m going to have, my personal chef and Carrara marble countertops!

That’s why this verse spoke to me so strongly this morning when I came across it. I’ve heard and read it a million times but it took on new meaning for me in this moment because I’m realizing first-hand the process of prosperity. There’s levels to it and John is showing us how to traverse them in this scripture:

The more our soul (mind, will & emotions) prospers, the more our “all things” will prosper.

That’s why we have to make a habit of investing in our soul prosperity. For me in this season, I think that means I’m going to visit my future self on a more regular basis, instead of waiting months in between. What does that mean for you? How is God leading you to invest in your soul right now?

If your present self is also currently at odds with the person God is transforming you into, know that it’s because there’s greatness in your future that won’t accept anything less than you living and experiencing your most abundant life. Silence the person you’ve been (just the negative parts of course!) by consistently showing them the person you were born to be.

Genesis 12:14-15 & 17:5 → God gave Abraham something physical he could look at everyday & a new name to call himself on a regular basis so that he could get a picture of who he really was on the inside. What tangible things can you add to your routine? Ask God to show you.

Romans 12:2 → Renewing your mind is the only way you're going to see real transformation take place in your life.

2 Corinthians 3:18 → The best way to renew your mind is to invest time looking at Jesus. He's the ultimate mould God is shaping you into.
