God is my air.

“The angel of the Lord came back a second time and touched him and said, “Get up and eat, for the journey is too much for you.” So he got up and ate and drank. Strengthened by that food, he traveled forty days and forty nights until he reached Horeb, the mountain of God.”

1 Kings 19:7-8 (New International Version)

The more I live this full-time entrepreneur life, the more I realize I how much I need God. Like NEED need. Up to this point I think I’ve been surviving off of the high of my dream and my morning time with Him but lately it hasn’t been enough. I think I’m starting to experience what the 12 Week Year refers to as the “informed pessimism” stage of the change cycle where it starts to sink in that climbing this mountain really isn’t going to be easy (newsflash, I know). So to squelch the doubts, fears and obstacles that bombard me throughout the day, I have to re-up on my Jesus time more often. Period.

I need Him like air.

Just like Elijah set out on a long journey in this week’s passage, without feeding himself nearly enough, we tend to do the same thing. You start out all energetic but several miles into this entrepreneurship game, after the first and second and third and sixteenth setback of the day, it can feel like you don’t have any strength left to continue. The same way that angel made Elijah pause for the cause to eat something to replenish his physical body, God nudges us to feed our spirits too. And the only way we can do that is through His word and time with Him.

I’m starting to learn that the deeper you go toward the purpose He’s called you to, the less anything besides Him can sustain you.

ESPECIALLY if He’s got you on a true faith walk! If He’s called you out on the water, you are OUT. THERE. I know it may feel like it’s sink or swim right now, but the truth is you actually have a life jacket — you just have to use it. That life jacket consists of communion with God, His Word & His Spirit living in you to teach and guide you. And as choppy as these waves may seem, through Him you have the power to speak to them and tell them to talk to you nice! (Marlena Banks amplified version 😂)

But maybe you’ve been feeling like you’re drowning lately and don’t even have the strength to speak. Believe me, I’ve definitely been there! If that’s the case, you just need to fill back up boo. Join me in building more spiritual self-care into your day so you can have the power to move forward in the divine strength that only God can provide.

Still hungry? Eat some more //
John 15:4-8 → Outside of Jesus, you can do nothing. But with Him, you can do all things!

Mark 4:35-41, John 14:12 → If Jesus could still a storm, you can too. Use your words to tell those obstacles what to do instead of the other way around.

BTW...A few ways I'm going to build in more spiritual self-care in my day:

  • wake up and scroll the Bible app before I check IG :-/

  • listen to a sermon during my midday break instead of another hour of whatever Netflix series I’m binging (I'm still gonna get an hour in though! lol). Current fave: Pastor Michael Todd Crazy Faith series

  • Take a break and listen to a praise or worship song / playlist when I start feeling weighed down with worry. Praise God until I feel better and get back to work. Had this on repeat earlier this week and it got me right!
